Blues Underground 3 Oct 2017, 7:30 Hobart Blues Club

Hailing from the Huon, ‘Blues Underground’ has been playing around the valley for the last four years at RSLs, campgrounds and pubs. A four piece band, that occasionally expands by adding a horn section, it’s current rendition includes ’blind man’ Steve Iles, Andy Koppleman, Paul “Swanny” Svenson and Nic Meredith.

All veteran musos, this combination has managed to sneak out of the Huon in recent times, playing at the Republic and now finally making it to The Duke. The band covers such legends as Johnny “Guitar” Watson, Louis Jordan, Buddy Guy, Otis Reed, Johnny “Lightning” Hopkins, Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf and Otis Spann.

The masterful Steve (formerly of “The Riff Kings”) will bring his riffing and slide guitar skills to the fore alongside Andy (formerly of “Slyde”) on bass, while “Swanny” (loads of bands from Sydney we have never heard of) will keep the beat on drums, and Nic will front the band with his powerful, emotive vocals and guitar, wandering around on a journey through their repertoire.
